Clinics & Services

The following Health Promotion Clinics and other medical services are provided at the Practice:

Adult Immunisations and Vaccinations

Please contact the Practice Nurses for advice and vaccination against:

Influenza

We offer free flu vaccinations every Autumn to our older patients and to patients with chronic heart or respiratory disease, diabetes or other chronic conditions.  A fresh immunisation is needed each year.

Tetanus

All adults should have been covered by a course of three tetanus vaccinations, followed by two boosters at ten year intervals.

Pneumonia

The Department of Health recommends that people aged 65 and over, and those with certain medical conditions, are vaccinated against pneumococcal disease.  For most patients, pneumococcal vaccine is given only once.

Travel Holiday Vaccinations

Two of our Practice Nurses will offer travel health advice and vaccinations for polio, typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, malaria and tetanus.  We ask that you collect a travel health questionnaire from reception you will be asked to complete the form and to hand it back in for the nurse to check your needs.  You should allow at least eight weeks notice before your departure date.   

Asthma Clinic

Practice Specialist Nurses Alyson Jones and Lynette Burge see asthma patients by appointment for regular assessment, advice, support and education.

Child Immunisations

It is very important that all babies and children are immunised in line with the current schedule.  You will receive an invitation through the post and then you will need to phone the surgery to make an appointment. If you have any concerns, please feel free to discuss them with your Doctor or Health Visitor.

Child Health Surveillance Clinic

Dr Ellis and Dr Nelson, in association with the Health Visitors, perform routine development assessments for babies and young children at eight weeks and seven to nine months of age.  

Cervical Smear Tests

It is recommended that all women aged between 25 and 49 years old have a cervical smear test every three years, and women ages 50 to 64 years have a cervical smear ever five years.  You will receive a reminder from Cervical Screening Wales when your smear is due.

The Practice Nurses carry out smears by appointment, but you should let the Receptionist know that you will need a 15-minute appointment.

Diabetic Clinic

Practice Nurses Alyson Jones, Sonia Williams and Angharad Thomas see diabetic patients by appointment for regular assessment, advice, support and education.

Dietician

The Doctors or the Practice Nurses may refer patients to the Community Dietician Clinic.

Family Planning

All the doctors and will offer confidential advice, during normal surgery times, on all aspects of contraception. Practice Nurse Sonia Williams also runs a clinic on a Monday from 4.45pm to 5.45pm by appointment. 

Minor Operations

Minor surgery is carried out in a well-equipped treatment room.  Such procedures include the removal of cysts, in-growing toenails and moles, joint injections, as well as the treatment of warts and verruca's. 

Minor Surgery is usually arranged in consultation with your doctor.

Smoking Cessation Advice

If you are trying to give up smoking and require advice and support, our Doctors and Practice Nurses are able to put you in touch with a locally-based Smoking Cessation Advisor.

Travel Clinic

The practice nurses run a travel clinic service and are happy to give advice regarding travel vaccinations and other medications you may need. 

Please collect a form from reception and allow 6-8 weeks before travel.

There is a charge for some travel vaccinations, please ask at reception for details.
