Temporary pause on secondary care blood tests – please bear with us…
We are sorry for any inconvenience and stress caused by our temporary decision to pause secondary care phlebotomy services at Fishguard Health Centre. GP surgeries must offer ‘core services’ as outlined by Welsh government. Blood tests for secondary care are not part of core GP work. We usually offer this service, where our phlebotomist will take blood for our patients for hospital teams, as an additional extra to support our patient population. It is pertinent to explain that some surgeries will not perform any phlebotomy of this kind as a policy.
We have decided to withdraw this service currently due to increased service pressure along with a current review of service structure at the Surgery. As this process is underway, we must focus on ‘core services’ and undertake the tests that are managed by Primary care . This will be kept under review and we are actively developing a plan for going forward as part of our strategy for sustainable Primary health care services in Fishguard.
